Dear Colleagues:Welcome back! Another academic year is upon us. This year, we will continue to work toward becoming one of the best universities in the west–a destination of choice for students in Nevada and the region.

To the class of 2011: a special welcome. Whether you come from across the street or across the world, a new life awaits you here. I encourage you to take full advantage of your opprortunity at the University of Nevada, Reno. College life will be different than anything you’ve experienced before. These years will be a time of exceptional growth, personally and intellectually. Our faculty and staff are invested in your success. If at any time you need assistance, I encourage you to seek us out and take advantage of the many programs and services designed to ensure student success.

You only need to spend a matter of a few moments with Scott Mensing to feel, to experience, the passion that radiates from his teaching career at our university.

For the better part of a decade, Scott, chairman of the Department of Geography, has established a reputation as one of our finest teachers. And for good reason.
